Diat.barcode: a DNA tool to decipher diatom communities for the evaluation environmental pressures

Abstract: Diatoms (Bacillariophyta) are ubiquitous microalgae, which present a huge taxonomic diversity, changing in correlation with differing environmental conditions. This makes them excellent ecological indicators for various ecosystems and ecological problematics (ecotoxicology, biomonitoring, paleo-environmental reconstruction …). Current standardized methodologies for diatoms are based on microscopic determinations, which is time consuming and prone to identification uncertainties. DNA metabarcoding has… Show more

“…Then, chimeric sequences were removed from the samples, resulting in an average of 120,364 sequences per sample. Amplicon sequence variants (ASV) detected were assigned to taxa using version 10 of the curated reference database for diatoms Diat.barcode (Rimet, 2021) available at https://doi.org/10.15454/D7FO2T. ASV's not classified as Bacillariophyta were removed from the analysis.…”
