Diary of a domain analyst: a domain analysis case-study from avionics

Abstract: Domain analysis has been suggested by some in the reuse research community as an important process for achieving successful reuse. In this paper, we describe a domain analysis case-study in the domain of aero-engine systems. The principle objective of the case-study was to evaluate the use of a domain analysis technique on a complex domain in an industrial setting. As a result of the case-study we have learnt a number of lessons about successful domain analysis practice and experienced at first hand some of the… Show more

“…Case analysis allows number of methods: constant comparative analysis (Lewis-Beck et al 2004), classical content analysis (Bauer 2000), domain analysis (Kelly et al 1996), pattern matching (Almutairi et al 2014), explanation building (Mills et al 2010), and taxonomic analysis (Onwuegbuzie et al 2012). First, we read the 12 reports fully, and the maintenance errors were classified using HFACE-ME taxonomy: six cases were related to judgements and others were related to attention in recognizing conditions, task knowledge, and skills.…”

“…Зокрема, доменний аналіз використовується у побудові систем з повторно-використовуваних програмних компонентів, аналізу існуючих та побудови нових інженерних рішень [4]. Також доменний аналіз може бути застосований і для будь-якої іншої предметної області, де необхідна структуризація компонентів систем домену.…”
