Dialysis Requirement and Long-Term Major Adverse Cardiovascular Events in Patients with Chronic Kidney Disease and Superimposed Acute Kidney Injury

Abstract: Background: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients who experience superimposed acute kidney injury (AKI) have been shown to be at higher risk of long-term sequelae of AKI when compared to those who do not experience AKI. It remains unclear whether the need for temporary dialysis intervention following superimposed AKI in patients with CKD has any effect on the long-term major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE). This study examines the relationship between temporary dialysis therapy following AKI and long-term… Show more

“…48 CKD patients who experience superimposed AKI have been shown to be at higher risk of long-term sequelae of AKI when compared to those who do not experience AKI. 49 Pr-AKI is a rare complication with a poor prognosis. Reports from India revealed a decrease of Pr-AKI from 15% to 1.5% in the 2010s, 30% were severe and required dialysis.…”

“…[14][15][16][17] Los pacientes con ERC tienen un elevado riesgo de LRA. 18 Adicionalmente, los costos de LRA y ERC en la UCI son altos. [19][20][21] El objetivo de este estudio fue contrastar la supervivencia a medio plazo de pacientes críticamente enfermos con FRN, LRA y ERC.…”

“…AKI is characterized by an abrupt decline in renal function [4]. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a serious complication in patients with CKD and AKI, and is the main cause of death among patients on dialysis [5][6][7]. Reduced GFR has been correlated with an increased risk of CVD among CKD patients [8,9].…”
