“…JHMAT is an enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of inactive precursors of JH to active JH in the final stages of JH biosynthesis (36, 38). Interestingly, while it has not been previously implicated in pesticide resurgence, treatment of the stored product pest Sitotroga cerealella with diallyl trisulfide, an insecticidal compound in garlic essential oil, was found to increase JHAMT mRNA levels (72). Because JHMAT is the key rate-limiting enzyme in regulation of JH titer our results suggest that its enhanced expression is a key molecular mechanism of pesticide resurgence in BPH.…”

“…Apart from these medicinal applications, DAT has insecticidal activities, such as repellent, oviposition inhibitor, and spermicidal activity against S. cerealella [10]. Previously we reported that DAT decreased the dichotomous sperm numbers and testis protein contents of S. cerealella and impaired the juvenile and ecdysone hormone titers, resulting in lesser oviposition [11]. We further showed that DAT is associated with oligoasthenoteratospermia (OAT), which includes morphological and ultrastructural alterations in dimorphic sperm structure, reduced sperm motility, and arrested spermatogenesis [12].…”

“…9 Moreover, botanical insecticides possess favorable characteristics such as reduced persistence in the environment, target specificity, and multiple modes of action. 10,11 However, the volatility and rapid vaporization of EOs and their active components have limited their effectiveness in long-term storage environments. To address this limitation, microencapsulation technology has emerged as a promising approach to enhance the insecticidal efficacy of EOs.…”
