Diallel analysis in Citrullus mucosospermus (Fursa) for fruit traits

Abstract: For the estimation of genetic parameters (such as heterosis effect, potence ratio, combining ability and reciprocal effects) of five fruit traits, in order to suggest breeding strategies in Citrullus mucosospermus (Fursa), a field trial was carried out at Kononfla city in Western Côte d'Ivoire using 4x4 full diallel. All 12 F 1 hybrids and their parents were planted in a randomized complete block design with three replications. A positive heterosis effect relative to mid-parental values was observed to hybrids… Show more

“…It is therefore suggested to use these crosses for the selection of a plant in later generations of breeding [38]. It should also be noted that non-significant sca can be obtained after a crossover involving two best general combiners [8]. Therefore, it cannot be generalized that parents with high gca effects could only produce good hybrids [40].…”

“…Given all the nutritional potential of this species, consideration should be given to this crop in agronomic research in order to improve its productivity, its fruit and seed yields and its other characteristics of nutritional values to humans such as its leaves. The productivity of this species can be increased by improving the genetic architecture across different cultivars or through the selection of high yielding cultivar [8]. For this, knowledge of certain genetic parameters that govern the important agronomic traits of the crop is necessary, and can be obtained through diallel cross design [9] and implementation.…”
