Diagnostic performance of neutrophil CD64 index in patients with sepsis in the intensive care unit

Abstract: Objective This study was performed to evaluate the diagnostic value of the neutrophil CD64 index in patients with sepsis in the intensive care unit (ICU). Methods Patients with sepsis who were treated at the ICU of the authors’ institution from December 2016 to June 2018 were retrospectively reviewed. The controls comprised age- and sex-matched patients who underwent coronary bypass and had no evidence of infection. The neutrophil CD64 index, C-reactive protein (CRP) level, and procalcitonin level were compare… Show more

“…For example, Dai et al (10) performed a meta-analysis including 7 studies in neonates with pooled sensitivity and specificity of 80% (95% CI: 69-88%) and 83% (95% CI: 71-90%), respectively. Ye et al (14) reported a sensitivity of 83% and specificity of 88% in diagnosing sepsis in 62 adult ICU patients. Groselj-Grenc et al (15) reported the diagnostic performance of the nCD64 index with a sensitivity of 86% and specificity of 100% in children.…”

“…CRP is an acute-phase protein that increases within 4 to 6 hours upon stimulation by pro-in ammatory cytokines and peaks at 36 to 50 hours [13] . CRP is often used for early diagnosis of infection and as a bacterial biomarker for sepsis [14] , but it has relatively low speci city [13] .…”

“…For clinical operation, this is based on change in SOFA score in patients with known or suspected infection. In a recent retrospective study, 39 diagnostic accuracy of CD64, PCT, and CRP was evaluated for sepsis identification in 35 adult ICU patients and compared with 27 controls (underwent coronary bypass surgery). Sepsis 3 criteria were used for sepsis identification.…”

“…But, this study has limitations of small sample size and retrospective in nature. 39 Till now, no literature is there describing CD64 as a prognostic marker or sepsis as per sepsis 3 criteria.…”
