Diagnostic performance and problem analysis of commercial tuberculosis antibody detection kits in China

Abstract: BackgroundThe diagnosis of bacterium-negative pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) and extra-pulmonary TB is challenging clinically. The detection of the anti-TB antibody has an important, auxiliary, clinical diagnostic value. Therefore, TB antibody detection kits should be screened and evaluated, and the reagents with the highest sensitivity and specificity should be chosen and used clinically.MethodsThe diagnostic performance of 7 commercially available TB antibody detection kits (kits A, B, C, D, E, F and G) based o… Show more

“…14 In turn, this issue has greatly hindered the promotion and unified application of this assay worldwide, especially in countries with regional geographic and climate diversity and population mobility. In addition, concomitant Mtb infection can increase overall IgG levels in serum, [26][27][28] which can greatly reduce CPA diagnostic accuracy. Therefore, more diverse tests and methods are urgently needed to enable rapid diagnosis of the disease.…”

“…Meanwhile, BACTEC™ MGIT™ 960 takes about 14 days, which prevents timely TB diagnosis making it a challenge in TB control 13 . Antibody-based diagnosis is widely used to detect infectious diseases 14 16 . It could be applied to TB diagnosis because of its rapidness and simplicity, especially in high TB burden and low-income countries, if the sensitivity and specificity level is of an acceptable value.…”
