Diagnostic Model of Serum miR-193a-5p, HE4 and CA125 Improves the Diagnostic Efficacy of Epithelium Ovarian Cancer

Abstract: Epithelium ovarian cancer (EOC) is currently the prevalent malignant cancer worldwide. However, there is a lack of efficient biomarkers for EOC screening. Accumulating evidence reveals that serum miRNA detectable in various types of cancer. Therefore, we explore the diagnostic value of combined detection of plasma miR-193a-5p, HE4 and CA125 for EOC. Serum samples were collected from 45 patients with primary EOC, 30 patients with benign ovarian tumor patients and 40 healthy controls. The expression of serum miR… Show more

“…Deb et al summarized the current knowledge regarding the role of miRNA expression in OC [27]. In addition, several previous studies have shown that stable circulating miRNAs play an increasingly important role in the diagnosis of OC [9][10][11][12][13][14][15]. However, to our knowledge, few reports have described miRNA levels in exosomes isolated from the plasma of OC patients [16][17][18][19].…”

“…Serum CA125 is best known as a biomarker to monitor epithelial ovarian cancer and for the differential diagnosis of pelvic masses according to previous reports [9,22,23]. Serum levels of CA125 are routinely monitored in patients with OC, and an increase from an individualized nadir concentration is a prognostic indicator of cancer recurrence [24].…”

“…A diagnostic model of serum miR-193a-5p and the tumor markers CA125 and HE4 for EOC was evaluated by Ren et al [145] that significantly correlated with lymph node metastasis. The AUC of the risk model for distinguishing EOC patients from healthy individuals was 0.996 which was higher than any single biomarker [145] . Apart from miR-193a-5p, the deregulated plasma levels of which were also reported in recurrent platinum resistant OC patients [146] , the improvement of the diagnostic power of CA125 and HE4 for OC was also shown to be mediated by serum exosomal miR-375 and miR-1307.…”

“…[7][8][9] Functional studies have confirmed that miRNA participates in various biological processes including cell development, differentiation, and proliferation. [15][16][17][18][19][20] Although miR-193a-5p has been proven to inhibit cell proliferation and colony formation, induce cell-cycle arrest in the G0/G1 phase and suppress tumor cell invasion, the function and the underlying mechanism of miR-193a-5p in GBM remain elusive. 14 According to previous reports, microRNA-193a-5p (miR-193a-5p) is a tumor suppressor which is lowly expressed in multiple cancers including gastric cancer, breast cancer, prostate cancer, non-small cell lung cancer, osteosarcoma, and ovarian cancer.…”
