A 15-year-old, spayed, female poodle dog was presented for evaluation of a mass of tissue prolapsed from the vulva. The dog had been hysterectomized when it was 5 years old. A vaginal mass had been removed approximately 10 months before presentation. Haematological and serum biochemistry analyses demonstrated mild leucocytosis and glycaemia. A vaginal smear was predominantly made up of parabasal cells and intermediate cells with no neoplastic cells. Thoracal and abdominal radiographic findings were unremarkable. The ovaries could not be identified using abdominal ultrasonography. A midline exploratory laparotomy identified both ovaries that were surgically excised. The vaginal mass was also removed following an episiotomy procedure. Histopathological examination of the mass demonstrated that it was a neurofibroma. Both ovaries had cystic changes. Four months after the surgery, the owner reported that the dog was clinically normal. To the authors’ knowledge, this is the first reported case of a vaginal neurofibroma after an incomplete ovariohysterectomy in the dog.

Female rabbits often exhibit reproductive tract disorders and accurate sonographic descriptions of the normal genital tract are lacking. The aims of our prospective, analytical, and reference interval study were to describe the ultrasonographic appearance of the genital tract of healthy female rabbits, provide reference values, and compare ultrasonographic findings with histopathological samples. Twenty‐eight intact female rabbits presented for elective ovariohysterectomy were included. Ovaries, oviducts, uterine horns, cervixes, and vagina were imaged by ultrasound to assess their size, shape, location, margination, echogenicity, and echotexture. The genital tract of 12 rabbits was sent for histopathology. Genitals were visible in all rabbits using the linear probe. The ovaries were oval‐shaped and hypoechoic with a variable pattern. The oviducts, uterine horns, and vagina appeared as tubular structures with a consistent distinct layering, and the cervix as two contiguous hypoechoic tubular structures with a variable layering. Incidental findings, including paraovarian cysts, mineralization foci, and luminal fluid were observed. The median values of the height of the left and right ovaries, oviducts, uterine horns, cervixes, and vagina were, respectively, equal to 3.52 3.37, 1.39, 1.39, 4.34, 4.36, 5.57, 5.15, and 2.40 mm. Significant correlations were observed among age, body condition score, and some of the measurements. Abnormalities of the reproductive tract were reported in 4 of 28 rabbits. This study supports the use of ultrasonography in the evaluation of the reproductive tract of healthy female rabbits and provides reference values for use in rabbits with genital disorders.

ΠΕΡΙΛΗΨΗ. Η πυομήτρα αποτελεί το τελικό στάδιο της μακροχρόνια εξελισσόμενης κυστικής υπερπλασίας και εκ φύλισης του ενδομητρίου. Τα αίτια και η παθογένεια της δεν έχουν διευκρινιστεί πλήρως. Στην εμφάνιση της συμβάλ λουν οι επανειλημμένοι άγονοι οιστρικοί κύκλοι, η αλόγιστη χρήση προγεσταγόνων και οιστρογόνων, καθώς και η μό λυνση του ενδομητρίου. Σκύλα που βρίσκεται στην περίο δο του Οιοίστρου, είναι μέσης ή μεγάλης ηλικίας και παρου σιάζει συμπτώματα όπως κατάπτωση, ανορεξία, πολυδιψία, πολυουρία, αφυδάτωση και διάταση της κοιλίας (κλειστή πυομήτρα), ή τα παραπάνω συμπτώματα σε ηπιότερη μορφή και παράλληλα πυώδες έκκριμα στα εξωτερικά γεννητικά όργανα (ανοικτή πυομήτρα) εγείρει την υποψία ότι πάσχει από πυομήτρα. Η διάγνωση επιβεβαιώνεται με ακτινογρα φικό ή υπερηχογραφικό έλεγχο. Η αιματολογική καθώς και η βιοχημική εικόνα υποβοηθούν τη διάγνωση, την πρόγνωση καθώς και την επιλογή της κατάλληλης υποστηρικτικής α γωγής. Η ωοθηκυστερεκτομή αποτελεί τη μοναδική θερα πευτική επιλογή σε ζώα μεγάλης ηλικίας ή σε εκείνα που δεν χρησιμοποιούνται για αναπαραγωγή και παρουσιάζουν βαριά κλινική εικόνα. Η συντηρητική αγωγή με τη χρησι μοποίηση προσταγλανδίνης F 2 a σε συνδυασμό με βακτηρι-διοκτόνα αντιμικροβιακά μπορεί να εφαρμοστεί σε σκύλες ηλικίας κάτω των 8 ετών που χρησιμοποιούνται για αναπα ραγωγή, και δεν παρουσιάζουν σοβαρή διαταραχή της γενι κής κατάστασης τους.Λέξεις ευρετηρίασης: Σκύλος, Πυομήτρα ABSTRACT.
