Diagnostic Efficacy of Serum Amyloid A Protein and Soluble Intercellular Adhesion Molecule 1 in Pediatric Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia

Abstract: Serum amyloid A and sICAM-1 may be considered as reliable markers for detection of VAP. Combination of serum SAA with CPIS increased the specificity to 100%. Measurement of SAA in patients with VAP also had a good predictive value for nonsurvival in such patients.

“…The expression level of ICAM-1 of patients in NAFLD group almost had no change. This is inconsistent with literature reports where it was found that the ICAM-1 levels were increased when using a coronary artery injury model after CABG (may be due to the vascular damage response), or that the levels were low in other conditions (may be because of a negative feedback regulation mechanisms) ( 18 , 19 ). Then again, it was found in this study that the expression levels of MMP-9 in peripheral blood of patients in the two groups were highest one day after the CABG procedure, and that the levels in the NAFLD group were significantly higher than those in the non-NAFLD group (p<0.01).…”

“…Lymphocyte count and NLR are convenient and quick indexes of inflammation detection in laboratory examination; they are used in the diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis evaluation of many diseases (Reddy and Lsymj, 2020;Ljungström et al, 2017). SAA, as a newer biomarker, has been reported to increase the accuracy of diagnosing pneumonia and other infections (Abo-Hagar et al, 2019;Azurmendi et al, 2017;Prendki et al, 2020). Through the combined detection of SAA and other indicators in patients, this study found that the joint detection of indicators displayed better performance than detection of a single indicator.…”

“…SAA is an acute-phase protein mostly synthesized by the liver, with a significantly shorter half-life than CRP [ 24 ]. In the pediatric setting, SAA predicted the presence of ventilator-acquired pneumonia with a sensitivity of 100% and a specificity of 93% [ 25 ]. Azurmendi et al showed that SAA was elevated in patients at risk to develop post-stroke infections [ 26 ].…”
