Diagnosis of stator winding short circuit faults in a direct torque controlled interior permanent magnet synchronous motor

Abstract: Absract--Direct torque control (DTC) is a powerful control method for interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM), it provides a systematic solution in improving the operation characteristics of not only the motor but also the voltage source inverter(VSI). Stator winding faults due to short circuited turns are one of the most electrical faults in DTC-IPMSM drive system. The main problem with fault is connected with their destructive character and a tendency to a rapid transition. In early stage of this… Show more

“…In [10][11][12][13][14][15][16][17], the turn short fault models of the PMSM have been presented. They used the winding function [10,15] or simplified model [11,12,13,16,17] to obtain inductance value with turn short fault. But, they are inaccurate for the multi pole motor since the flux couplings between the turn faulted winding and healthy windings of the same phase are ignored.…”

“…So the fault diagnosis about the PMSM problems is essential because the PMSM has a huge influence on the safety and economic efficiency of the vehicles. The stator winding fault is a common fault that has interested researchers for many years [21][22][23][24][25][26][27]. It is resulting from the degradation of the inter-turn interphase and main isolation of the motor winding.…”

“…In recent years, Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (PMSM) are one of most important electric machines widely used in industries such as traction, automobiles, robotics and aerospace. Besides, they can be used in electric vehicles and ship propulsion systems due to the inherent important advantages of high power density, high efficiency, small weight, high reliability and easy control of external torque by stator's current control [1][2][3][4].…”
