Diagnosis of choledocholithiasis and bile duct stenosis by magnetic resonance cholangiogram

Abstract: We evaluated the diagnostic accuracy of magnetic resonance cholangiography (MRC) in the diagnosis of bile duct calculi and stenosis. Two-dimensional fast spin echo (FSE) MR cholangiograms were performed using torso multicoil array as a surface coil and respiratory triggering in 50 patients suspected of having bile duct disease. Coronal and axial images were acquired and reviewed prospectively by two radiologists. Direct cholangiographic correlation (endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography [ERCP], intrao… Show more

“…MRCP diagnostic accuracy, sensitivity and specificity are comparable to those reported in the literature (Calvo et al, [10], Huassein et al, [13], Boraschi et al, [9] Varghese et al, [14]) where sensitivity, specificity and diagnostic accuracy respectively range between 81-100%, 84-100% and 90-96%.…”

“…In this study the sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of 100%, 90% and 93.3% respectively. MRCP diagnostic accuracy, sensitivity and specificity are comparable to those reported in the literature Calvo et al12 , Huassein et al13 , and Varghese et al14 , where sensitivity, specificity and diagnostic accuracy respectively range between 81-100%, 84-100% and 90-96%. It is known that the sensitivity of MRCP for detecting choledocholithiasis decreases with bile duct dilatation 15.…”

“…Among literatures review showed that diagnostic accuracy, sensitivity and specificity of MRCP are comparable to those reported in those studies where sensitivity, specificity and diagnostic accuracy respectively range between 81-100%, 84-100% and 90-96% 11,28,29 . Another study concluded in their study that MRCP was more accurate than CT in differentiating between malignant and benign lesions in patients with suspected periampullary tumors 30 .…”
