Diagnosis and Epidemiology of Helicobacter pylori Infection

Abstract: A limited amount of new information was published in the field of diagnosis and epidemiology of Helicobacter pylori this last year. Besides some improvement in current tests, it is interesting to note the attempts to identify severe disease, for example gastric cancer, by breath analysis using nanomaterialbased sensors. In contrast, the predictive value for gastric cancer and atrophy of pepsinogen determinations was found inadequate.Prevalence studies of H. pylori infection have been carried out in adults and … Show more

“…This finding is in line with the current global trend of decreasing prevalence of H. pylori found by previous studies (3,12,13). No significant association was found between H. pylori infection and gender, but higher frequency of infection was observed among men in the current study.…”

“…The PR was used in this analysis as a measure of association because it is considered more conservative, consistent, and appropriate for cross‐sectional studies compared to the prevalence odds ratio 23, 24. Variables were entered into the multivariate log‐binomial model if the variables were known or hypothesized risk factors for H. pylori , and the P values associated with their regression coefficients were <.05 25. All data were analyzed using Stata for Windows release 14.0 (Stata Corporation, College Station, TX, USA).…”

“…Undoubtedly, it can result from a range of factors influencing a child's body: changes of microorganisms' features, family history, ecological changes, present comorbidity and others [11,14]. One of the factors affecting the course of shigellosis can be infection of children with Helicobacter pylori (Н. pylori) and immune disturbances appearing as a response to inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract mucosa caused by H. pylori [16,17]. Helicobacter infection is one of the most wide spread among population and it is revealed in 25-80 % of world population depending on age and social and economic level in one or another region [18,19].…”
