Diabetes mellitus increased integrins gene expression in rat endometrium at the time of embryo implantation

Abstract: Background: Diabetes mellitus deeply changes the genes expression of integrin (Itg) subunits in several cells and tissues such as monocytes, arterial endothelium, kidney glomerular cells, retina. Furthermore, hyperglycemia could impress and reduce the rate of successful assisted as well as non-assisted pregnancy. Endometrium undergoes thorough changes in normal menstrual cycle and the question is: What happens in the endometrium under diabetic condition? Objective: The aim of the current study was to inv… Show more

“…The impact of diabetes on the gene expression of integrin subunits is widely acknowledged, affecting various cell types and tissues including monocytes, arterial endothelial cells, glomerular cells, and the retina ( 73 ). The ITGA4 gene, which codes for α4 integrin, has been demonstrated in recent research to play a role in the PI3K-AKT signaling pathway associated with nephroprotective effects ( 74 ).…”

“…Some researchers showed that DM and related chronic hyperglycemia has unfavorable effects on endometrium and ovary, including increased risk of endometrial cancer, polycystic ovary syndrome, embryo implantation failure. [31][32][33][34] DCA administration to the diabetic rats significantly attenuates some of endometrial pathologies and endometriosis. 35,36 In this present study, we found that DCA improves the adverse effects of diabetes on the endometrium.…”

“…Progesteron ve östrojenin varlığında ise bu integrinin ekspresyonun fazla olduğu saptanmıştır 18 . Ayrıca integrinlerin alt birimlerinden olan α4, αV, β1 ve β3'ün endometriumda tüm bölgelerde periyodik olarak eksprese edildiği bilinmektedir 19 . Sülz ve ark.…”
