Di-μ-thiocyanato-bis[bis(tri-p-tolylphosphine)silver(I)] acetonitrile disolvate

Abstract: In the centrosymmetric title compound, [Ag2(NCS)2(C21H21P)4]·2CH3CN, the Ag atom is coordinated by two phosphine ligands and two bridging thiocyanate ligands in a distorted tetrahedral configuration. The Ag—P bond distances are 2.4615 (7) and 2.5091 (7) Å, while the Ag—N and the Ag—S bond distances are 2.364 (2) and 2.3269 (18) Å, respectively. The crystal structure exhibits C—H...S hydrogen bonds.

“…Some of the compounds were reported previously (1: Venter et al (2007), Khumalo et al (2010) and 4: Bowmaker et al (1997)) and all spectroscopic information is in accordance with previous reports. Infrared spectra were recorded on a Bruker Tensor 27 FT-IR spectrophotometer, using a PIKE miracle Gate ATR accessory.…”

“…1 (Bowmaker et al 1997;Venter et al 2007;Khumalo et al 2010;Meijboom et al 2009). The thiocyanate anion formed bridges through coordinative bonds between the two silver nuclei, with the two phosphine ligands coordinated to the silver.…”

“…As a continuation of the above study and in addition to the previously studied di--thiocyanato-bis[bis(tri-p-tolyl)silver(I)] (Venter et al, 2007) we present the crystal structures of two polymorphs of the title compound, di-thiocyanato-2 N:S; 2 S:N-bis[bis(tri-p-fluorophenylphosphine-P)silver(I)], of which only five related examples can be found in the literature [Cambridge Structural Database (CSD), Version 5.30, May 2009 update;Allen, 2002]. The difference in geometric structures of the two polymorphs is analysed using r.m.s.…”

“…overlay calculations as well as half-normal probability plots (Albertsson & Schultheiss, 1974;De Camp, 1973;Abrahams & Keve, 1971). The two structures are also compared with four other structures from the CSD; [Ag 2 (SCN) 2 {P(4-MeC 6 H 4 ) 3 } 4 ]ÁCH 3 CN (Venter et al, 2007), [Ag 2 (SCN) 2 (PPh 3 ) 4 ] (Howatson & Morosin, 1973;Bowmaker et al, 1997) and the two polymorphs of [Ag 2 (SCN) 2 (PPh 2 Cy) 4 ] (Effendy et al, 2005).…”

“…We recently reviewed the structural chemistry of silver(I) complexes with, mainly, phosphine ligands (Meijboom et al, 2009) and refer to this review for more information on the various complexes. An interest in the ability of silver(I) complexes to adopt geometries with variable nuclearities has led to the study of silver(I) complexes with various counterions and different ratios of tri(p-tolyl)phosphine Meijboom, 2006;Venter et al, 2006Venter et al, , 2007. This paper reports a polymorph of [AgI{P(4-MeC 6 H 4 ) 3 } 3 ] (1), in monoclinic space group C2/c (a).…”
