Di-μ-hydroxo-bis[aqua(1,10-phenanthroline-κ2N,N′)copper(II)] terephthalate octahydrate

Abstract: The title compound, [Cu2(OH)2(C12H8N2)2(H2O)2](C8H4O4)·8H2O, was prepared by the hydrothermal reaction of CuCl2, 1,10‐phenanthroline, terephthalic acid and water at 443 K. It consists of a double‐hydroxo‐bridged dinuclear complex cation [Cu⋯Cu = 2.911 (3) Å], a terephthalate anion and eight water molecules. Both cation and anion possess inversion symmetry. A network of O—H⋯O hydrogen bonds stabilizes the structure.

“…The deviation from planarity of tpht ligands is noticeable with the angle between C26-C28 ring and adjacent COO group of 25.6(2)° in 1 and 26.0(2)° in 2, while the analogous angle for C22-C24 ring is 18.6(1)° in both complexes. As it was mentioned in the introduction, in TM-tpht complexes (containing at least one tpht as a counter anion) with different N,N-donor ligands, [16][17][18][19][20][21] these angles were found to be in the range between 17.4 and 29.0°. The stabilization of the crystal lattices of 1 and 2 is achieved by the hydrogen bonds and non-covalent interactions.…”

“…The role of tpht as counter anion as well as the hydrogen bond acceptor is not uncommon and it was described earlier for some TM-tpht complexes. [16][17][18][19][20][21] As a continuation of our ongoing studies on ternary TM complexes with tpht ions and some aromatic diamines, we present here the synthesis, crystal structure, thermal and magnetic properties of two new coordination compounds, with general formula…”
