Active replication on top of a structured peer-to-peer overlay is an attractive solution for transparently providing high availability to distributed applications. However, self-healing is necessary to ensure the availability of the replicated application despite node arrivals, failures or departures in the overlay. Selfhealing means to automatically reconfigure the replica groups when changes in the overlay occur. In the case of active replication, reconfigurations must be done carefully, to keep the replicas consistency. Moreover, as every reconfiguration could imply a state transfer between replicas, their number should be limited. In this paper we propose a self-healing solution that limits the number of group reconfigurations and ensures the availability of the replicated application in a dynamic environment. To evaluate the performance of our solution, we implemented it in a framework, called Semias, in the context of Vigne grid middleware. Experiments run on Grid'5000 and PlanetLab show the performance of the framework and the efficiency of our selfhealing mechanisms in a dynamic environment.

Abstract-It is very challenging for different organizations to coordinate together in dynamic situations like a disaster response. Each organization is autonomous and considers the situation from their point of view. There is no central authority to coordinate all operations. To coordinate their actions, organizations need to exchange information on what they are doing. However, they cannot share everything with everybody due to privacy, regulatory or strategic reasons. Currently, they only use e-mail, telephone or fax to exchange information. Thus, it is very difficult for them to detect and handle differences on their perception of the situation. We propose an approach for inter-organizational process management suited to these dynamic scenarios. It allows different organizations to share selected activities by replicating them optimistically in each other workspaces. The underlying system propagate the state changes to all workspace eventually. We explain detecting and handling of two different types of conflicts that can occur in this setting. We provide an implementation and explain how we have derived a first evaluation of the system.

SUMMARYWikis-being major applications of the Web 2.0-are used for a large number of purposes, such as encyclopedias, project documentation, and coordination, both in open communities and in enterprises. At the application level, users are targeted as both consumers and producers of dynamic content. Yet, this kind of peer-to-peer (P2P) principle is not used at the technical level being still dominated by traditional client-server architectures. What lacks is a generic platform that combines the scalability of the P2P approach with, for example, a wiki's requirements for consistent content management in a highly concurrent environment. This paper presents a flexible content repository system that is intended to close the gap by using a hybrid P2P overlay to support scalable, fault-tolerant, consistent, and efficient data operations for the dynamic content of wikis. On the one hand, this paper introduces the generic, overall architecture of the content repository. On the other hand, it describes the major building blocks to enable P2P data management at the system's persistent storage layer, and how these may be used to implement a P2P-based wiki application: (i) a P2P back-end administrates a wiki's actual content resources. (ii) On top, P2P service groups act as indexing groups to implement a wiki's search index.
