Device‐scale CFD modeling of gas‐liquid multiphase flow and amine absorption for CO2capture

Abstract: In this paper we aim to develop a validated device‐scale CFD model that can predict quantitatively both hydrodynamics and CO2 capture efficiency for an amine‐based solvent absorber column with random Pall ring packing. A Eulerian porous‐media approach and a two‐fluid model were employed, in which the momentum and mass transfer equations were closed by literature‐based empirical closure models. We proposed a hierarchical approach for calibrating the parameters in the closure models to make them accurate for the… Show more

“…Simplification of the real structure, such as simplifying the packing structure to porous medium, can speed up the simulation process. 60,166,449 A lowdimensional modeling method, such as a one-dimensional modeling of the gas absorption in a packed bed, has also been widely applied. 30,33 One-dimensional modeling has also been applied on the gas absorption in a spray tower.…”

“…The absorption columns have a packing bed to create a suitable contact surface between the gas containing CO 2 and the liquid. The amount of CO 2 absorption and mass transfer depends on the distribution of liquid flow on the packings 13–15. Structured packings are widely used in absorption, distillation, scrubbing and extraction columns, and these offer a highly effective area per unit volume 16–18.…”
