Developments in mycotoxin analysis: an update for 2021-22

Abstract: This review summarises developments published in the period from mid-2021 to mid-2022 on the analysis of a variety of matrices for mycotoxins. Important developments in all aspects of mycotoxin analysis, from sampling and quality assurance/quality control of analytical results, to the various detection and quantitation technologies ranging from single mycotoxin biosensors to comprehensive instrumental methods are presented and discussed. This non-exhaustive summary and associated discussion covers such technol… Show more

“…The question raised is how much relevance this has for a possible plant-breeding problem. The introduction of the recent analysis of mycotoxin made it possible to observe hundreds of compounds in a sample [ 70 ]. In 138 samples, 46 mycotoxins were identified, indicating a very wide range of potential contamination [ 71 ].…”

“…This current issue consists of seven articles, covering a wide range of topics -such as grain sorting, gamma-irradiation of pistachios, application of atoxigenic isolates of Aspergillus flavus for biocontrol or near-infrared spectroscopy of maize yielding data on mycotoxin contamination and nutritional composition. As every year, the highlight of the first issue is the review of recent analytical methods in mycotoxin determination (Tittlemier et al, 2023). At this stage, I would like to thank all authors for their fine contributions to science and at the same time wish the readers of the articles informative content.…”

“…Low MLs are especially critical in certain food categories, such as baby food. The health and economic impact of mycotoxins leads to the ongoing development of different analytical techniques to detect them (Tittlemier et al, 2022). These procedures can be divided into confirmatory and screening methods (Miklós et al, 2020), which are (ideally) used in a complementary fashion.…”

“…The field of mycotoxin analysis is constantly changing (Tittlemier et al, 2022), as the stakeholder demands change (Adunphatcharaphon et al, 2022). For instance, vibrational spectroscopy methods have been increasingly popular over the past decade due to their green approach and simple sample preparation procedures (Freitag et al, 2022).…”
