Developmental Changes of Immunity and Different Responses to Weaning Stress of Chinese Indigenous Piglets and Duroc Piglets during Suckling and Weaning Periods

Abstract: To investigate developmental changes in immunity and different responses to weaning stress of piglets from different breeds during suckling and weaning periods, a total of 30 litters of Taoyuan black (TB) piglets, Xiangcun black (XB) piglets, and Duroc (DR) piglets (ten litters per breed) were selected at 1, 10, 21, and 24 days of age, respectively. The results showed that the liver index of TB piglets was higher at 10 days of age than that of the other days of age and breeds. Regardless of the days of age, TB… Show more

“…Those results are consistent with our previous findings, which indicated a higher liver index of the XCB piglets than the DR piglets at 21 days of age [26]. Overall, these findings support the hypothesis that up-regulated IGF-1R expression is one of the reasons for the strong anti-stress capability of Chinese indigenous pigs during weaning.…”

“…The Taoyuan pig is a unique local breed in China, primarily distributed in Taoyuan County, Hunan Province. Xiangcun pigs, a crossbreed of Taoyuan and Duroc pigs, inherit Duroc’s high reproductive performance and acquire Taoyuan pigs’ high-quality meat, roughage tolerance, and disease resistance ( Ding et al, 2022 ; Liu et al, 2022 ). However, the fungal composition and distribution of host pathogenicity-related genes carried in the intestine of Taoyuan and crossbred Xiangcun pigs remain unreported.…”
