Development of Tsunami Evacuation Simulation Model to Support Community Planning for Tsunami Disaster Mitigation

Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to develop a Tsunami evacuation simulation model. In this model, which uses the concept of MultiAgent Systems, each evacuee has an age, an evacuation speed, a number of neighborhood obstacles, a fatigue level and a consciousness of disaster mitigation as attribute data. Evacuation behavior is decided by interaction of these data and environment around the evacuee. This model was applied to Tomoura historical built-up area in Tokushima to evaluate six scenarios of disaster mitigatio… Show more

“…The other relates to applied techniques. For example, "A Comprehensive Scenario Simulator in Flood Time" has been developed as a tool to optimize the warning system and evacuation [5] and a tsunami evacuation simulation model has been developed for evaluating the community evacuation plan [6]. Two of the studies mentioned before, [4] and [8] also address the development of applied techniques.…”

“…Computer simulation plays an important role in both the prediction of damage caused by a disaster and the proposal of strategies and procedures to avoid harm to people. In real world problems, computer simulation is used to design structures to keep both people and structures safer, as well as to predict the effects of disaster situations [1,2].…”
