Development of the COVID-19 Real-Time Information System for Preparedness and Epidemic Response (CRISPER), Australia

Abstract: Accurate and current information has been highlighted across the globe as a critical requirement for the COVID-19 pandemic response. To address this need, many interactive dashboards providing a range of different information about COVID-19 have been developed. A similar tool in Australia containing current information about COVID-19 could assist general practitioners and public health responders in their pandemic response efforts. The COVID-19 Real-time Information System for Preparedness and Epidemic Respons… Show more

“…The studies that used a map-style representation (79/114) adopted different strategies: static geographic 2D or 3D maps [14,15,19,20,22,31,33,36,38,[42][43][44]50,75,81,83,88,93,102,104,107,109,117,118,123], dynamic 2D maps [20][21][22]25,61,65,80,85,89,90,94,97], or choropleth maps [17,23,24,27,30,32,34,35,37,40,46,48,49,52,…”

“…A small number of dashboards provided more specialised or contextual information. As the pandemic has progressed, spatial visualisation platforms have become more diverse and specialised, ranging from aggregate mapping of cases to the mapping of exposure sites [ 14 ], population mobility [ 15 ], urban environmental suitability for social distancing [ 1 ], morgue capacity [ 16 ], risk of outbreaks for events of different sizes [ 17 ], and personal risk of infection [ 18 ]. Dashboards have also utilised simple analytical approaches to provide estimates of risk including automated alerts for locations of interest [ 14 ] and cluster detection [ 5 ].…”

Following the discovery and distribution of vaccines, dashboards increasingly focussed on presenting data related to vaccination rollout and coverage, with health system variables being added to online platforms that initially focused on presenting epidemiological information [ 19 ].…”
