Development of the ComPair gamma-ray telescope prototype

Abstract: There is a growing interest in the science uniquely enabled by observations in the MeV range, particularly in light of multi-messenger astrophysics. The Compton Pair (ComPair) telescope, a prototype of the AMEGO Probe-class concept, consists of four subsystems that together detect and characterize gamma rays in the MeV regime. A double-sided strip silicon Tracker gives a precise measure of the first Compton scatter interaction and tracks pair-conversion products. A novel cadmium zinc telluride (CZT) detector w… Show more

“…In order to build to full implementation in AMEGO-X, an AMEGO-X prototype is planned. This prototype is a combination of many efforts, including: AstroPix (as a novel tracker), a cesium-iodide calorimeter, the ComPair balloon instrument [9], and Compton event reconstruction improvements. The AMEGO-X prototype (Fig.…”

“…Performance of CZT detectors Makoto Sasaki depending on the detector design. The CZT Imaging Calorimeter for the ComPair instrument [3] is shown on Figure 2 c, where the crates are arranged in a 3×3 array to cover a 90 mm × 90 mm active area. We have evaluated the performance of the CZT Imaging Calorimeter using the recently developed IDEAS GDS-100 readout system with an IDM-121 waveform sampling ASIC (Figure 3).…”
