Development of PEFC Electrode for Stable Running Under High Temperature and Low Humidity Condition

Abstract: To prepare a high water-holding cathode catalyst layer with good polymer electrolyte fuel cell performance under low humidity conditions, the quantity of water contained in the cathode catalyst layer and behavior of the water detachment were tested by estimating the weight change by thermogravimetry analysis. The results revealed that cell performance under low humidity conditions particularly depended on the water-holding ability of the contained ionomer in the catalyst layer.
