SUMMARYBackground: Quality indicators (QIs) play an important role in evaluating quality improvement initiatives. A generally accepted set of QIs specific to the nursing care in the intensive care unit (ICU) is not available.Aim: To identify QIs associated with nursing care for adult ICU in the literature. The methodological quality of QIs was assessed and associated variables of quality and quantity of nursing care were also identified.Methods: We employed an integrative literature review. A focused search of electronic databases was applied. Inclusion and exclusion criteria were used for the selection of relevant articles. Quality assessment of the included studies was based on the guidance document of domains and elements suggested by the Agency of Health Care Research and Quality. QIs’ methodological quality was assessed using the Appraisal of Indicators through Research and Evaluation (AIRE) instrument.Results: The review identified 13 studies and 45 QIs associated with nursing care in the ICU. The set of QIs assessed in each study, the type of nurse staffing measure as well as morbidity and mortality rates varied considerably. Findings suggest that quality and quantity of nursing care are strongly associated with higher rates of adverse events, mortality, infections and complications in adult ICUs. Methodological quality of the QIs also differed considerably. Higher AIRE scores, indicating higher scientific evidence of methodological quality, can be used to select evidence-based and valid QIs.Conclusions: A number of QIs quantifying nursing care in the ICU have been identified. These QIs could be combined to form a tool which would allow to the quantification and assessment of the quality of ICU nursing care provided in a regular basis.

Clinical teams are facing increasing demands toperform more consistently and efficiently in delivering improvedhealth outcomes. Hospital management team in Korea facedifficulties in complex routine task for nurse, which result inworkforce burnout, fatigue, foot and hip ailments from thenecessary walking during a single shift on corridors asquestionnaire suggested.Three analysis of variance as walkability, visibility andarrangement are applied as programmed attributes from a set ofseven Korean adult intensive care units (ICUs), namely SNUH,SSMU, SCC, DUIH, KUMC, PNUH, YUHS. These ICUs areaccepted as the best- performing prototypes by the KoreanInstitute of Healthcare Architecture as Acute Care Medicine.This study systematically analyses the Nurse Station (NS) visit tothe patient bed, than calculates minimum round route on theICUs depth map plan; with aid of the connectivity on supplychain simulation analytical tool ‘route stop’ of LogWare. It wasfound that the maximum walk was calculated for the singular NSat KUMC where primary NS walks 542.005 feet zigzag path andsecondary NS walks 214.814 feet linear path. Conclusively,ANOVA predicted three optimum arrangements which wereconcentric around NS: L-Shape, U- Space or O- Shape scored 5/5thus walking for nurse reduces and utmost visibility wasillustrated. On the contrary I shape and zigzag pattern wasrecognized as not very efficient arrangement with 2/5 score, dueto an increase in walking and reduction in visibility to the lastpatient in the row.

The main contribution of paper is for designersthrough identification of appropriate shape geometry required forcare givers in a hospital by using space syntax technique.Healthcare management field is at a boom now a days, andfacilitating nurse is one of the important aspect coming up infuture, thus a lot of new courses in this field are also beenintroduced and management is in demand. Focus is on creatingthe optimal conditions for innovation in healthcare, which hasmore to do with team dynamics and mindset than standardprocesses and tools. Researchers are rigorously working toimprove patient safety by increasing and improving interface withnurse. This study systematically analyses the Nurse Stationtypo-morphology, and simulates nurse vision. The visualconnectivity is measured on depth map graphs. Hence the aim isto reduce staff stress and fatigue by support space distribution byincreasing effectiveness in delivering care. A depth mapcomparative analysis of three types of the Surgical Intensive CareUnit (SICU), Medical Intensive Care Unit MICU and CriticalCare Unit CCU found at hospitals Hallym University MedicalCenter, South Korea (HUMC), is analyzed here. Concussively, itwas proved that L-Shape provides maximum visibility, where as Ishape provides vast vista of a panoramic view from the NurseStation.
