Development of novel polymorphic microsatellite markers for the silver fox (Vulpes vulpes)

Abstract: ABSTRACT. The silver fox (Vulpes vulpes), a coat color variant of the red fox, is one of the most important fur-bearing animals. To date, development of microsatellite loci for the silver fox has been limited and mainly based on cross-amplification by using canine SSR primers. In this study, 28 polymorphic microsatellite markers were isolated and identified for silver fox through the construction and screening of an (AC) n -enriched library. The number of alleles per locus ranged from 2 to 8 based on 48 indivi… Show more

“…Tissue samples were stored at −20°C or in absolute ethanol. We genotyped the samples using 16 microsatellite loci: DGN3, DGN14, FH2541, REN161A12, REN162B09, REN69B24, V374, V402, V502, Vv‐C01.424, Vv‐C08.618, Vv‐CPH11, Vv‐CPH2, Vv‐INU055, VVM124, VVM189 (Breen et al, ; Mariat, Amigues, & Boscher, ; Moore, Brown, & Sacks, ; Wandeler & Funk, ; Yan et al, ). The data are publicly available (see Data Accessibility).…”

“…Genotyping was carried out using a multiplex PCR of 20 autosomal microsatellite loci (RF 21,59,125,127,131,143,155,156,162,165,199,200 65 ; VVM 219, 85, 838, 529, 189, 844, 828 66 ), explicitly developed for the red fox.…”
