Development of Novel AlSi10Mg Based Nanocomposites: Microstructure, Thermal and Mechanical Properties

Abstract: Al matrix nanocomposites are interestingly employed in the automotive, military, aerospace and electronics packaging industries. In this study, Graphene Nanoplatelets (GNPs) reinforced AlSi10Mg nanocomposites were produced via powder metallurgy. The effect of GNPs content on density, microstructure and mechanical characteristics of the AlSi10Mg/GNPs nanocomposites was investigated systematically. To this aim, AlSi10Mg/GNPs nanocomposites reinforced with 0.5, 1.0 and 2.0 wt.% of GNPs were produced by wet mixing… Show more

“…AlSi10Mg has been massively deployed in the aerospace, automotive and marine industries in recent years due to its high heat conductivity, low weight and outstanding mechanical properties [1][2][3]. However, the traditional forging or casting process still has limitations due to its time-consuming nature and low cost-effectiveness [4][5][6]. In the wake of technology developments, selective laser melting (SLM) gradually became a hot topic owing to its high free-forming and rapid prototyping ability [7,8].…”

“…Tiwari et al [20,21] studied the interfacial bonding characteristics of graphene/AlSi10Mg composites and the new method of relatively uniform distribution of graphene. Shafaqat Siddique et al [22][23][24][25] studied the effects of graphene on microstructure, thermal properties, tensile properties and friction and wear properties of AlSi10Mg. The results show that the porous structure parts with excellent performance can be prepared by SLM technology with reasonable SLM process parameters and post-processing methods.…”

“…Metal matrix composites (MMCs) are a class of materials that can be produced by adding one or more reinforcements to a metallic matrix [1,2]. Over the past years, MMCs could attract worldwide attention mainly owing to their unique properties as well as the possibility to tailor the properties of materials and consequently fulfil the criteria of the particular applications [3,4]. In fact, through the production of MMCs, it is possible to combine the ductile, tough and conductive characteristics of metals with wear resistance, stiffness, and rigidness of ceramic materials.…”
