Los nomogramas son una herramienta matemática antigua y eficiente para resolver problemas complejos. Se trata de una representación gráfica de una función matemática que permite resolver ecuaciones sin necesidad de realizar cálculos manuales exhaustivos. Aunque las calculadoras electrónicas han relegado su uso, los nomogramas todavía tienen ventajas en la docencia de la ingeniería, especialmente en cálculos repetitivos y en la representación en dos dimensiones de múltiples variables de entrada y respuesta. Además, los nomogramas son útiles en el manejo de distintos sistemas de unidades, reducen la probabilidad de errores de magnitud y son robustos a fallos. Se ha probado el uso de estas herramientas en estudiantes de grado y posgrado en diversas ingenierías. Posteriormente, se realizó una encuesta en escala Likert que demuestra que los estudiantes tienen un gran interés en estas herramientas y encuentran que son útiles en el proceso de aprendizaje de la ingeniería. A pesar de que un 78,4 % de los encuestados no habían utilizado nomogramas, el 86,5 % cree que esta herramienta analógica permite una buena interpretación del fenómeno cuando hay muchas variables y que los profesores deberían utilizarla en la docencia.

The strength of municipal wastewater and sludge considering their potential for biogasification can be expressed in terms of multiple parameter comprehensive indices (MPCI), namely, Wastewater Comprehensive Index (WWCI) and Sludge Comprehensive Index (SCI), respectively. Both of these indices can be calculated using fuzzy multiple criteria decisions making (FMCDM). Simple linear equations are established to express the relation between these indices, suspended solids concentration and biogas. The linear equation is developed to predict biogas from multiple parameter comprehensive indices, which indicate the linear relation between strength of wastewater, sludge and biogas. Nomogram was developed to get immediate quantification of biogas by linear scaling of suspended solid concentration and multiple parameter comprehensive indices (MPCI). Using a linear equation obtained from regression analysis; a suitable scale was developed to construct the nomogram. The biogas was found 96% precise with reference to measured one when estimated using nomograms. A single parameter, that is, suspended solids concentration will be monitored at municipal wastewater treatment plant, by digital device; to save chemicals, time, power and human resource. While taking efforts toward smart cities; digitalization and resource conservation will be creditable.

This study investigated several approaches for silane-removal from the surface of short carbon fiber bundles, and short carbon fibers uniformly dispersed in cement to produce a novel compound of carbon-fiber-reinforced cement. In order to facilitate the uniform distribution of short carbon fibers in the carbon-fiber-reinforced cement, it is necessary to remove the silane from the carbon fiber’s surface. Short carbon fiber bundles were submerged into a pure water, sodium hydroxide solution, and acetic acid solution, and placed in high-temperature furnace used to remove silane from the carbon fiber surface. The results were observed under a scanning electron microscope to determine the level of silane removal from the surface, and an effective method for removing the silane was developed from among the several approaches. This method employed a pneumatic dispersion device to disperse carbon fibers then mixed in a high-early-strength cement which led to an excellent compressive and impact-resistance performance of carbon-fiber-reinforced cement. Final testing showed that the compressive strength and impact energy increased by 14.1% and 145%, respectively.
