Development of ‘MY299BK’, a Cultivar Resistant to Bakanae Disease Harboring qBK1 Gene Derived From a Tong-il Type Rice ‘Shingwang’

Abstract: Bakanae disease is an important fungal disease caused by Gibberella fujikuroi. Incidence of rice bakanae disease creates serious problems in the foremost rice producing countries, affecting more or less all known rice cultivars. Breeding rice cultivars resistant to bakanae disease will thus be a cost-effective alternative to the application of fungicides. 'MY299BK' was derived from a cross between YR24982-9-1 and 'Ilpum' in 2008. A promising line, YR28297-1-38-1-1, was selected from among the progeny and desig… Show more

“…(Lee et al, 2021). Therefore, many different quantitative trait locus (QTL) related to bakanae resistance have recently been identified through QTL mapping, which can be used to perform marker-assisted selection in rice cultivation and resistance mechanisms to bakanae (Lee et al, 2019;Park, 2020). Most QTLs conferring bakanae resistance were identified on chromosome 1 and qBK1 z , qBK1.2, and qBK1.3 are localized in similar regions of different resistant varieties (Lee et al, 2021).…”

“…A QTL from ‘Nampyeong’, a resistant variety, was reported at 87.9–91.7 cM of the same chromosome 1 ( Hur et al, 2015 ; Lee et al, 2018 ). Based on the reported QTLs, ‘Anpyeong’ and ‘MY299BK’ were developed from a cross with ‘Shingwang,’ a variety with qBK1 ( Jo et al, 2020 ).…”

“…Furthermore, qBK1 WD in the japonica variety Wonseadaesoo [34] and qBK1 Z of the Zenith variety [35] were identified to confer resistance to bakanae disease. Recently, a late maturing cultivar MY299BK which is bakanae resistant was developed by introducing the qBK1 gene from Shingwang [36].…”
