“…Review of the literature provides examples of traumatic implantation of human papillomavirus (HPV) and occurrence of warts following skin grafting, 7,8 and after skin resurfacing with a carbon dioxide laser, 9 without a latency period. A case of HPV inoculation during tattoo placement with latency periods of 8 years was reported by Ragland et al 10 .…”

“…Also, local tissue immunity is likely compromised by the epidermal destruction process, allowing organisms to multiply. 15 Atypical mycobacteria can be an unusual cause for infection following procedures such as liposuction and mammoplasty, 16,17 but hitherto has not been described following cutaneous laser resurfacing surgery. 9,11,13 Yeast infection, especially Candida species, also accounts for infections that may contribute to scarring after laser resurfacing procedures, but they respond well to antifungal treatment.…”

“…14 Multiple warts have also been noted to arise after skin resurfacing with CO 2 laser. 15 Atypical mycobacteria can be an unusual cause for infection following procedures such as liposuction and mammoplasty, 16,17 but hitherto has not been described following cutaneous laser resurfacing surgery. These rare infections have been caused by a specific subclass of atypical mycobacteria called the "rapid growers," named for their unusually fast growth characteristics.…”
