Development of Metamaterial Inspired Non-Uniform Circular Array Superstate Antenna Using Characteristic Mode Analysis

Abstract: In this work, using characteristic mode analysis, a multi-layered nonuniform metasurface structured antenna has been optimized. The driven patch of square structure and the parasitic patch elements of circular radiating cross-slotted meta-structure are used in the proposed model. The modal significance characteristic angles and surface currents are analyzed based on characteristic mode to optimize the nonuniform structures. The antenna is resonating between 5.5–6.1 GHz, covering WLAN applications with an avera… Show more

“…Characteristic Angle (CA) is a crucial element in this analysis. This angle represents the phase lag that exists on a conductor object between the surface current and the electric field [21,32]. In terms of math, it is represented as: Modal Significance (MS) is another important element.…”

“…Obviously, such designs require complex feeding networks. 3 Another way is to vertically stack multiple patches, of which the activated modes are orthogonal to each other. However, these designs may have a high profile and structural instability.…”

“…This article proposes a potential solution to the problem using a single-layered MTS CP slit antenna. The proposed antenna is printed on one side of the substrate, and the MTS is printed on the other side, with a total size of 58 × 58 × 1.536 mm 3 . Innovative vertical slit in the center of the hexagonal patch to lower the profile, and achieve dual-band circular polarization.…”

“…Active frequency selective surfaces (AFSS) have received great attention due to their adjustable features [6], which are applied in various domains including antennas, spatial filters, electromagnetic compatibility, absorbers and communication [7][8][9][10]. In the radar target stealth field, numerous studies about microwave reflectivity, absorption bandwidth, directionality and polarization characteristics have been done [11][12][13][14]. Researchers have mainly focused on the AFSS absorbers from the perspective of energy attenuation.…”
