Development of Mesopore Structure of Mixed Metal Oxide through Albumin-Templated Coprecipitation and Reconstruction of Layered Double Hydroxide

Abstract: Mixed metal oxide (MMO) with relatively homogeneous mesopores was successfully obtained by calcination and reconstruction of albumin-templated layered double hydroxide (LDH). The aggregation degree of albumin-template was controlled by adjusting two different synthesis routes, coprecipitation and reconstruction. X-ray diffraction patterns and scanning electron microscopic images indicated that crystal growth of LDH was fairly limited during albumin-templated coprecipitation due to the aggregation. On the hand,… Show more

“…The DL-R had a relatively larger particle size than the other hybrids and did not show specific morphology ( figure 4 e ). This is a typical morphology of LDH after reconstruction with organic moiety [ 43 45 ]. As the layer-by-layer stacking is slightly disordered in the reconstruction reaction, the particles of organically reconstructed LDH tended to show a random assembly of lamellar sheets.…”

“…Market and Industry Trend of MMO Metal oxide is one of the inorganic materials widely used as catalysts, electrodes, and adsorbents [46], and is used in all fields such as construction and industry, occupying a very important position in the infrastructure industry. MMOs are also used in various range of applications such as semiconductors, ceramics, and medicine as antifungal agents [47,48]. In particular, advanced ceramics are being used in various applications such as electronics, transportation, medical, environment, defense and security, and chemical industries, and the global market size is expected to reach $10,410 billion by 2021 [49].…”

“…We recently found that calcination of albumin-templated LDH produced MgAl-MMO with fairly high specific surface area. In this study, albumin (purchased from Sigma-Aldrich Inc., St. Louis, MO, USA) was added during two different LDH synthesis routes, coprecipitation and reconstruction, respectively ( Figure 9 a) [ 48 ].…”

“…The protein moieties are rapidly self-assembled around the air bubble to create a macromolecular network, leading to the coagulation; thus, EW acts as a selfaggregated template for porous metal oxide (first step of Figure 1a). We recently reported that porous MMO could be synthesized utilizing albumin as a bio-template through the repetitive calcination-reconstruction process [44]; however, the development of porosity had limitations when a single albumin is utilized as a template. In order to obtain a systematic molecular arrangement of a biogenic template, it is suggested to take advantage of natural protein components in EW.…”
