Development of HPLC fingerprint for the quality control ofEuonymus fortuneiand distinguishing it from related species

Abstract: Summary. To control the quality of Euonymus fortunei (Turcz.) Hand.-Mazz., a simple and reliable method of high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) coupled with photodiode array detector (PAD) was developed for both fingerprint analysis and quantitative determination. Four representative flavonoids, namely, kaempferolhamnopyranoside (IV) isolated from E. fortunei, were used as reference compounds and simultaneously determined by the validated HPLC method. The unique properties of the chromatographic finger… Show more

“…Meanwhile, the n-butanol fraction exhibits stronger hemostatic activity than the total fraction, indicating that the n-butanol fraction may be the best hemostatic part, and its hemostatic effect may be related to platelet aggregation and clotting factors. According to our previous research, flavonoids such as kaempferol-3,7dirhamnopyranoside and kaempferol-3-(4″-Oacetyl)-O-α-L-rhamnopyranoside-7-O-α-Lrhamnopyranoside, are the main components in the n-butanol fraction of E. fortunei [8,20]. In addition to usually regarded as polyphenolic compounds with antioxidant activity, kaempferol-3,7-dirhamnopyranoside can also have a hypoglycemic effect [21], and may also be used for cardiovascular treat cardiovascular disorders, exerts endothelium-dependent and independent vasorelaxation in thoracic aorta of normotensive and hypertensive rats [22].…”

“…In our previous work, six flavonoid glycosides were isolated from the ethanol extract of E. fortunei 4 . Two compounds, namely kaempferol-3,7-O-α-dirhamnopyranoside and kaempferol-3-(4"-O-acetyl)-O-α-L-rhamnopyranoside-7-O-α-L-rhamnopyranoside, were proved as the major class of constituents, with high contents of 0.03-0.54 and 0.12-0.67 mg/g, respectively 5 . Phenolic compounds are known to act as antioxidants and flavonoids are one of the most important phenolic compounds with radical scavenging properties 6 .…”
