“…The activated carbon was modified because of its disordered pore size distribution, different specific surface area and poor adsorption specificity, which will cause high cost and secondary pollution. 9,10 Among these alternative, membrane separation technology as a green clean production process has been identified to be one of the most promising candidate to wastewater treatment.…”

“…One of the other challenges faced in the fabrication of MMMs is colloidal stability. To ensure better colloidal stability, a narrow particle size distribution as well as even dispersion of nanoparticles, Jin et al [32] synthesised MMM using a drying free process. By avoiding the drying process, uniform and defect-free MMMs could be prepared as during the drying process, the Zn-imidazole groups on the surface typically reacted with each other and formed strong covalent Zn-Imidazole-Zn bonds, due to which the ZIF-8 nanofillers tend to agglomerate, which are very difficult to separate even upon subsequent re-dispersion.…”

“…The factors affecting MMM performance were found to be ZIF loading [32,48], operating temperature [5,58], feed concentration [5], hours of operation [51,58], synthesis time [51] and filler particle size [41].…”

“…Jin et al [140] took polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) nanofibrous substrate as supporter to form a high efficient MMM by embedding ZIF-8 into polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) for phenol removal in aqueous phase membrane extraction process and it showed extraordinary high overall mass-transfer coefficient, which was much better than pristine membrane in the membrane extraction process and the high performance was kept after over 360 h without loss of salt rejection. Li et al [141] incorporated hydrophilic MOF-801 crystals into chitosan (CS) matrix to fabricate MOF-801/CS MMMs for pervaporation dehydration of ethanol.…”
