Development of Future Rule Curves for Multipurpose Reservoir Operation Using Conditional Genetic and Tabu Search Algorithms

Abstract: Optimal rule curves are necessary guidelines in the reservoir operation that have been used to assess performance of any reservoir to satisfy water supply, irrigation, industrial, hydropower, and environmental conservation requirements. is study applied the conditional genetic algorithm (CGA) and the conditional tabu search algorithm (CTSA) technique to connect with the reservoir simulation model in order to search optimal reservoir rule curves. e Ubolrat Reservoir located in the northeast region of ailand was… Show more

“…The tabu search is recognized as being able to avoid giving the final answer that is the local optimum value and can continue to search until the answer is near to the global optimum point. Its capability relies on the fine-tuning of a few criterions (Glover and Laguna, 1997; Faigle and Kern, 1992; Sa-ngiamvibool et al., 2011; Kangrang et al., 2018).…”

“…The Q out from the dams simulated from Equation (4) was then validated against the observed flow from 2008 to 2016. Estimation of rule curve: A rule curve is a plot between storage and time acting as a guideline for the reservoir operation and enabling to examine the efficiency in satisfying water demand by different sectors, namely, domestic, irrigation, industrial, hydropower, and ecosystem [64]. The rule curve was estimated using the monthly storage variation of the reservoirs derived using satellite images and altimetry data from 2008 to 2016.…”

“…is is due to the rapid increase in population and the need for residential areas or even agriculture, industry, transportation, etc. An estimation of the inflow into a reservoir that includes land use and climate changes in the upper watershed area is an important issue for improvement reservoir operation [6][7][8].…”
