Development of Food Packaging through TRIZ and the Possibility of Open Innovation

Abstract: As the aging population increases, the need for new product development (NPD) for elderly-friendly food packaging is also increasing. Through the use of consumer research, this study derived the following problems when elderly people use food packaging: “The contents easily overflow when holding the container”, “It is hard to pour”, “Remnant remains after pouring”, and “It is hard to use a straw”. To address these problems, this study applied the following principles of TRIZ: principle 1 (segmentation) and pri… Show more

“…Ref. [28] used the open innovation concept to develop new products for elderlyfriendly food packaging that adheres to customer needs; it then created said packaging, and finally [29] developed platforms and channels in the hotel industry to collaborate with its guests in order to better understand their tastes and demands. We must thus use information from medical tourists in order to develop the service for them, and thus implement the open innovation idea in our bus route design and ultimately support medical tourists in the target area.…”

“…In TRIZ, the universality principle refers to the approach of allowing a part or object to perform multiple functions [28]. The universality principle has been used in research pertaining to food packaging, hoverboard design, service design, tracked robot design, and building design [29][30][31][32][33]. Using this principle, researchers propose to design the PCB in such a way that it is able to support multiple functions on a single board, such as an inverting amplifier, a noninverting amplifier, a voltage follower, a summing amplifier, a differential amplifier, a differentiating amplifier, and an integrator amplifier.…”

“…These changes are affected by factors such as economic, regional and sociodemographic diversity [37]. There is growing awareness of responsible production [38] and consumption, and there are habits that are considered more social because they are based on the formation of solidarity groups that work on access to food for specific collectives [39,40]. The pandemic period has also affected the consumption way of life, for example, food distribution channels have become more resilient and purchasing patterns show the use of digital technology, such as online delivery platforms and food retail applications [41].…”
