Development of electrostatic levitation motor for vacuum condition

Resumo-Neste trabalho, descreve-se o estado atual do protótipo de trem de levitação da UFRJ. O projeto tem duas partes principais: a levitação e a tração. Os resultados e desenvolvimentos de ambas as partes são descritos. Simulações e testes experimentais são apresentados. A integração das duas partes é feita em laboratório com um protótipo de escala reduzida. Estes resultados são necessários como convencimento para investimentos maiores, fundamentais para a construção de um protótipo em escala real, próximo passo deste projeto.

This paper describes the general design considerations and analysis for an industrial size electro-static (ES) motor/generator. The operation fundamentals, combined with FE (Finite Element) analysis are discussed with the target operation in the outer space or vacuumed environment. The torque production and limitations with high voltage electric field are analyzed and compared with conventional frame size electric machines.
