Development of Bi-Langmuir model on the sorption of cadmium onto waste foundry sand: Effects of initial pH and temperature

Abstract: The present study develops the sorption model for simulating the effects of pH and temperature on the uptake of cadmium from contaminated water using waste foundry sand (WFS) by allowing the variation of the maximum adsorption capacity and affinity constant. The presence of two acidic functional groups with the same or different affinity is the basis in the derivation of the two models; Model 1 and Model 2 respectively. The developed Bi-Langmuir model with different affinity (Model 2) has a remarkable ability … Show more

“…Langmuir and Freundlich's models are fitted with sorption data for the interaction of cadmium and copper ions with CSIO for q e (mg/g) with C e (mg/L) as shown in Figure 3. The fitted constants with statistical measures have been calculated from nonlinear regression -Microsoft Excel (2016) [1,7,8,16,18] as listed in Table 1. This figure in conjugation with a determination coefficient (R 2 ) and the sum of squared errors (SSE) elucidated that the model of Langmuir is more representative of sorption data.…”

“…In addition, the permeable reactive barrier (PRB) method was presented as an alternative for treatment of polluted subsurface water and results of many studies proved that this method is effective and efficient in the reclamation of groundwater. Since the ending of the first decade from the present century, integration of the sustainability concepts and practices of green technology has been the aim of PRB studies, because it is considered by regulatory agencies as a key design element in almost every treatment strategy [ 4 , 5 , 6 , 7 , 8 , 9 ].…”
