“…Each trap top was composed of a plastic jar that was 10.2 by 10.2 by 15.2 cm (W by L by H), with a funnel that had a 7.6-cm opening. Inside each jar top, one of the four treatments was evaluated for efficacy and speed of kill of adult H. halys: 1) ZeroFly netting, 2) lambdacyhalothrin-treated netting, 3) dichlorvos kill strip, current standard for insect traps (Leskey et al 2012a), and 4) no killing agent (control). The ZeroFly net was cut into 15-cm 2 sheets and wrapped tightly around the funnel cone on the inside of the jar and fastened with a paper clip.…”

“…In Allentown, PA, BMSB completes one generation per year , Nielsen & Hamilton 2009a. Further south in WV, two complete generations were documented (Leskey et al 2012a). In the mid-Atlantic region, summer adults appear from early July to early September.…”

“…Nielsen and Hamilton (2009a, b) thoroughly studied for the first time the seasonality of H. halys in the US. Halyomorpha halys is univoltine in eastern Pennsylvania (Nielsen and Hamilton 2009a), whereas this insect is bivoltine in northern Virginia and West Virginia (Leskey et al 2012c). Although degree days are enough for two generations in Pennsylvania, there is a delay that is likely the time required for ovarian development between spring adult activity and oviposition (Nielsen and Hamilton 2009a).…”

“…However, this stink bug was reportedly crossattracted to the male-produced aggregation pheromone of another pentatomid, Plautia stali Scott in its native range, whose males produce methyl (2E,4E,6Z)-decatrienoate (Sugie et al 1996;Tada et al 2001a, b). This pheromone compound and related geometric isomers were tested in the US and verified for their attractiveness to H. halys (Aldrich et al 2007(Aldrich et al , 2009Khriman et al 2008 To enhance the efficacy of the pheromone-baited traps, factors affecting captures were identified (Joseph et al 2013;Leskey et al 2012c;Nielsen et al 2011). A dose-dependent response by H. halys adults to increasing amounts of methyl (2E,4E,6Z)-decatrienoate was observed in the field (Leskey et al 2012c).…”
