Development of antistaphylococcal vaccines

Abstract: Staphylococcus aureus is frequently isolated from both hospital-acquired and community-acquired infections, and the emergence of antibiotic resistance among clinical isolates has made treatment of staphylococcal infections difficult. This scenario has sparked renewed interest in the development of a vaccine for individuals at high risk for staphylococcal infections. As part of the effort to develop a multicomponent vaccine against S. aureus, several vaccine candidates are currently being evaluated in animal mo… Show more

“…Some have been suggested as potential candidates for vaccines or therapeutic antibodies. 28 We found cna to be missing in the predominant clone (TCH clone A) but present in TCH clones B and C. S. aureus collagen adhesin is the only identified collagen-binding adhesin in S. aureus, and an association with septic arthritis and osteomyelitis has been suggested by some 29,30 and refuted by others. 31 Our finding that cna was absent in the predominant clone despite the growing number of osteomyelitis cases supports those advocating a less important role of cna in the establishment of bone and joint infections.…”

“…The global statistics data released by WHO made a conjecture that nearly 71 million people worldwide were infected by chronic Hepatitis C and in most of them disease has been progressed to cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. 1 Though there was 95% chance of reducing deaths and disease progression by antiviral therapy, lack of access to proper diagnostics and treatment kept the numbers rising through decades. Given the consequences there was imperative need for sustained research activity on development of novel antiviral entities, targeted therapies and combination therapy.…”
