Development of an Integrated Biorefinery System for Bioconversion of Lignocellulosic Biomass to Polyhydroxyalkanoates and Biohydrogen

Abstract: A sustainable lignocellulosic biomass-based biorefinery requires complete utilization and valorization of the biomass components. In the present study, a phase-separated pretreatment (chemo mechanicaldelignification followed by bacterial pretreatment) was performed to fractionate lignin and cellulose-rich residue from rice straw biomass (RSB) to utilize lignin for polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA) and cellulose-rich residue for biohydrogen production. A higher lignin removal of 81.4% was obtained through combined H… Show more

“…As the renewable organic carbon source, lignocellulosic biomass has been widely recognized as a promising fundamental alternative due to its huge reserves, renewability, and low cost. , In view of this, various of chemical or biological approaches have been developed for conversion of it into biomass-based chemicals or devices in recent years. , Among them, furfural is mainly produced from the dehydration of xylose, and it promises to be further converted into various chemicals via redox or condensation, because of its highly functionalized molecular structure. , Accordingly, it is significant to establish a green catalytic conversion process to associate furfural and TDOL.…”
