“…In addition, the use of fish management practices that foster the production of leaner more uniform populations may reduce the con- centrations of off-flavor metabolites in fish and increase the accuracy of flavor quality control decisions that are based upon evaluations of representative samples of fish. Efforts have been made to improve the detection and quantification of MIB, geosmin and other problematic metabolites in fish and water samples, and investigate conditions affecting noxious phytoplankton bloom dynamics in aquaculture systems (Johnsen and Kuan 1987;Chung et al 1990;Chung et al 1991;Millie et al 1995;Conte et al 1996aConte et al , 1996bGrimm et al 1996aGrimm et al , 1996bMiyamoto 1997). In addition, means to avoidhnhibit the biosynthesis of off-flavor metabolites and their occurrence in fish are being investigated.…”

“…Sections were incubated in blocking buffer (10% normal goat antiserum : double-strength PBS) for 1 h and washed 2 x in double-strength PBS for 15 min each. Primary antibody to MIB was raised in goats (Chung et al 1990) and either was used as a crude antiserum (diluted 1 : 100 in blocking buffer) or was purified using a protein-G-activated purification cartridge (FMC, Inc., Rockland, ME) (diluted 1:125 in blocking buffer). Sections were incubated in primary antiserum for 1 h at room temperature and washed 4 x in double-strength PBS.…”

“…Chung et al (28) and Chung (29) prepared polyclonal antibodies to a camphor-bovine serum albumin (BSA) conjugate. The resulting immunoassay gave a detection limit of only 1 mg L -1 and had 100% cross-reactivity to both camphor and the MIB dehydration product 2-methyl-2-borene.…”
