Development of an Amperometric Glucose Biosensor Based on the Immobilization of Glucose Oxidase on the Se-MCM-41 Mesoporous Composite

Abstract: A new bioenzymatic glucose biosensor for selective and sensitive detection of glucose was developed by the immobilization of glucose oxidase (GOD) onto selenium nanoparticle-mesoporous silica composite (MCM-41) matrix and then prepared as a carbon paste electrode (CPE). Cyclic voltammetry was employed to probe the catalytic behavior of the biosensor. A linear calibration plot is obtained over a wide concentration range of glucose from 1 × 10−5 to 2 × 10−3 M. Under optimal conditions, the biosensor exhibits hig… Show more

“…Obtained linear range is 0.5 ‐ 10 mM, LOD is 0.36 mM and LOQ is 1.21 mM. Response time for established biosensor with Cu(acac 2 pn) as mediator was 180 s. Constructed biosensor shows broader linear range compared to the values found in literature for CNT‐PDDA‐PtNPs‐GOx/CPE (1‐5 mM) and Se‐MCM‐41/GOx/CPE (0.01–2.0 mM) electrodes …”

“…Numerous types of biosensors like SPR, quartz crystal microbalance (QCM), electrochemical and optical biosensors have been developed for monitoring of glucose ranges in blood by GOx [ [95] , [96] , [97] , [98] ]. In SPR optic based gluco-sensor, GO was immobilized on to the gold sensor surface and after injection of gluconic acid and hydrogen peroxide glucose detection was provided by increase the refractive index and change the plasmonic condition of SPR curves [ 99 ].…”

“…So the increase of loaded enzyme on the sensor surface led to improve in its sensitivity. For this purpose, with immobilizing GOx onto the selenium nanoparticle-mesoporous silica structures, an electrochemical enzymatic biosensor was developed for sensitive detection of glucose [ 95 ].…”

“…Looking on the bright side, researchers are aware of the potential to further develop glucose sensors until the point-of-care testing (POCT) level. [60][61][62] After that, a lot of optical sensors have been developed due to the qualitative detection-concept which is easily to observe. Unfortunately, it has poor sensitivity for quantitative measurements.…”
