Development of an algorithm for automatic elaboration, representation and dissemination of landslide monitoring data

Abstract: Despite the support of technological improvements in hazard monitoring and management, the aspect of dissemination of scientific data is still underestimated. Hazard monitoring systems are usually organized in complex networks, composed of automatized procedures in order to capture, pre-process, elaborate, transfer the monitoring result data and to generate warnings. However, a well-organized communication strategy leads to success in hazard management, especially concerning emergency conditions. In this paper… Show more

“…The concept of usable science, for the correct dissemination of scientific results, are sometimes considered a minor issue in landslide study and investigations. In particular during emergency, a proper dissemination of the available data about the observed landslide evolution can represent a key point for a good involvement of population, and an effective support to decision makers [24,26].…”

“…In recent years, innovative approaches have provided an important step forward by integrating the existing inventory with other resources derived from technical community [22], or benefit from application of semantic engine to scan news available on internet [23]. Alongside, the scientific community emphasized the importance of correct management of data, their clear representation and dissemination in the field of landslide monitoring [24][25][26].Taking into account active landslides, consistent information about each single unstable area may occur. Indeed, the high vulnerability of those cases required an in-depth characterization of the hazardous landslides.…”

“…Beside technological and computational aspects, LANDMON satisfies a predefined communication strategy, which considers a specific approach for monitoring results dissemination [41,43]. The experience in the use of monitoring systems to manage emergencies emphasizes the need for a more effective communication approach to inform stakeholders and involved population correctly.…”
