Abstract: Magnetic fusion is a long term, worldwide research activity. Plans are increasingly ambitious, cooperation is progressing, and goals seem to be closer every year. ITER reactor is being built, and several conceptual studies are being developed around the world for the design of a DEMO power plant. A central goal of ITER is to demonstrate the safety and environmental potential of fusion as an energy source.
