Development of Adrenal Glands from the Embryonic Phase to Puberty in Spix’s Yellow-toothed Cavies (Galea spixii, Wagler, 1831)

Abstract: Several authors have underscored the importance of establishing parameters in morphological development by gender comparison to establish clinical and pre-clinical assays through the use of experimental models. Current research compares the morphometry of right and left adrenal glands of males and females and describes differentiation of the cortex and medulla tissue during the embryonic, pre-puberty and puberty phases in Spix´s yellow-toothed cavies. Embryos aged 22 (22D), 25 (25D), 30 (30D), 40 (44D) and >50… Show more

“…There is a general agreement among previous reports (Accordi et al, 2006;Lobo et al, 2018;Lousado et al, 2017;Unsicker et al, 2005;Vinores & Marangos, 1982) that chromaffin cells originate from the migrating neural crest in both mammals and birds. The neural crest is a temporary structure developed from the dorsal surface of the embryonic neural tube.…”

“…This finding is contrary to our investigation, these cells are arranged into an irregular mass at 7 days old and their organization into cords is established by 11th day. In rodents, the differentiation of the interrenal tissue (cortex) into three distinct zones begins after birth and becomes clearer during puberty (Lobo et al, 2018). This finding is inconsistent with our results, the differentiation of adrenal parenchyma into three clear zones starts at 15th day old embryo.…”
