Abstract: Sirtuins consume stoichiometric amounts of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) to remove an acetyl group from lysine residues. These enzymes have been implicated in regulating various cellular events and have also been suggested to mediate the beneficial effects of calorie restriction (CR).
