Development of a Virtual Reality Training System for Live-Line Workers

Abstract: This article presents a training system for live-line workers. The developed training system is based on immersive virtual reality and automatic speech recognition technology. The training is focused on live-line Cut-Out-Switch (COS) replacement work in a distribution system. Most work in power systems must be free of interruption, so it is carried out by live-line techniques. However, these techniques have increased the number of accidents by electric shock. Because most electric accidents are due to live-lin… Show more

“…Immersive VE has also been used for training of lineman to work on live line cutout switches through the use of a head mounted display and glove system. The program trains the user of proper procedures for completing this very dangerous work (Park et al 2006). No known projects deal with the use of VEs in electrical safety training in terms of general construction needs and situations.…”

“…Virtual reality training simulator, as an efficient training medium, provides a safe, low cost approach to view, hear and interact with realistic scenes through input devices to carry out the training operations. (Park, Jang, &Chai, 2006). In railway accidents, rescuers generally utilize the railway crane to recover the traffic.…”

“…Therefore, electrical safetyrelates to each worker's power. With the continuous expansion ofgrid, all kinds of advanced technologyhas been widely used and the requirements of electrical operation level are increasingly high [1]. The majority of our country's electrical safety training are given priority toon-site training and examinations.…”
