Development of a Simple Remote Sensing EvapoTranspiration model (Sim-ReSET): Algorithm and model test

Abstract: Remote sensing (RS) has been considered as the most promising tool for evapotranspiration (ET) estimations from local, regional to global scales. Many studies have been conducted to estimated ET using RS data, however, most of them are based partially on ground observations. In this study, we developed a new dual-source Simple Remote Sensing EvapoTranspiration model (Sim-ReSET) based only on RS data. One merit of this model is that the calculation of aerodynamic resistance can be avoided by means of a referenc… Show more

“…However, the uncertainty that is caused by the above factors is likely counteracted by the difference ratio in Eq. (1) or (2) (e.g., (T s À T a )/(T sr À T a )), as shown in our previous study (Qiu et al, 2006;Xiong and Qiu, 2014) and in Sun et al (2009), who used a revised 3T model (Sim-ReSET model). In our study, the net radiation is estimated by using the MODIS LST and air temperature; the uncertainties that are associated with these two variables, particularly the air temperature, may cause errors.…”

“…Extensive validation and inter-comparison studies of remote sensing-based evapotranspiration models had been conducted using dataset from the Yucheng station [40][41][42][43][44]. Sun [41] line determined by the DDTI is more reasonable.…”

“…The main assumption of this method is that the isolines in the VFC/LST trapezoid space is mainly controlled by soil water availability and the isolines within a VI/LST trapezoidal space are used to decompose the composite temperature into component temperatures. This method was recently revised and adopted by Sun et al [46], Long and Singh [47], Yang and Shang [48], Yang et al [25], and Sun [49] to develop two-source models.…”
