Development of a Selective and Sensitive Spectrophotometric Method for the Trace Determination of Thallium(III) Using 3-Methyl-2-benzothiazolinone Hydrazone Hydrochloride and N-(1-naphthyl)-ethylenediamine Dihydrochloride

Abstract: A simple, selective, sensitive, and rapid spectrophotometric method has been developed for the determination of thallium(III) using 3-methyl-2-benzothiazolinone hydrazone hydrochloride and N-(1-naphthyl)-ethylenediamine dihydrochloride. The obtained product had an absorption maximum of 590 nm. Beer's law was valid over the concentration range of 0.158 g/mL. The molar absorptivity and Sandell's sensitivity of the colored system were 2.93 104 L/molcm and 0.00723 g/mL, respectively. The effect of different acids … Show more

“…To further improve recycling yield, the load and wash of the PB resin can be evaporated which results in a Tl recovery of 94.8 ± 1.0% (n = 4). The recovered Tl was confirmed to be in the + 1 oxidation state as TlNO 3 by using a colorimetric method 23 . The recovered TlNO 3 was successfully electroplated, with the resulting targets showing no statistical difference in final target mass, or 203 Pb produced at EOB, compared to non-recycled TlNO 3 or Tl 2 SO 4 .…”

“…The recovered Tl (I) nitrate was then added to a plating bath solution and was used for target plating. The oxidation state and yield of the recovered thallium was determined via colorimetry 23 . Briefly, this method is based on the in-situ generation of a diazonium cation of MBTH by Tl 3+ , which reacts with NEDA to produce a blue-coloured product, whose absorbance at 590 nm is dependent on the concentration of Tl 3+ .…”
